Dear Love it is with pleasure that I adress you these fiew lines and to answer your letters I one on sunday last dated decmber 31 and the other Jan 1 was glad to hear from one that I love dearly I should have sooner but had no time therefore you must excuse me with the hope of doing better next time well I am here yet do not know how long we will stay and ragged and dirty as ever but well the boys are with the exception of our first Lieutenant and one of Shelby boys there is a good deal of sickness here there is gooin / the hospital from all the Regt here the number I can not tell the boys all feel well I with the rest all in good spirits or last night I at least for I staid with a Girl last night you think it strang but it is true her name is C A Ewing but found my self in my tent in the morning but I can not tell you how much better I felt I thought that we wer married but was badly disapointed am sorry but can not help it now but hope it will be all right some time but enough of for this time I heard the sad intelligence of the death of John Bones died at Louisville on the 28 we left there 26 I knew nothing about it till to night James Mcconnel got a letter from his brother to day which brought the nuse but life is uncertain in life we are / are in the midst of death
 
            Sunday 12/62 all well this morning and hope that my Love is well and enjoying your self I am glad to know that you are going to school hope you will be contented while at school I should like to be there with you and not only there but should like to come down across the woods to Mr Ewing do you think can guess what for but I will answer it is to see one of his daughters to get a kiss and have a little talk about things that have pased for the last fiew days I should like to have state soon of the peticulars in that letter as I under stand it states the reason why I left I would like to know all bout it but it was not on your acount that left home it was to save the country from ruin / I would not have you think so for nothing for I love you dearly and alwase shal and do not want you to think any other way but I must hasten on with this letter for I no more time I heard that we have marching orders since I begant to write 29 miles farther to Lebanon but can not tell whether we we will go or not but you may direct as you have before but you was speking baking I should like to be there and get a good meal once more to your house supose you send some of it dow to me so good By Love for a while
