body lives but [faded] and moove north 2 the place of [faded] and see my love it would be one of the happyest hours of my life love I still remain the same to you as ever and shal while life last it would be pleasent to hear from you every week [faded] /
2 make the best of a bad thing I was to the [faded]
May 11th Dear Love I had to stop writing on acount of mooving up nearer to corrinth yesterday afternoon and this morning received a letter from you dated 28 April was glad / to hear from you but the sad nuse of the death of [?] Ashley was something that I was not looking for in the least but death is in the land and seams that more deaths has ocured than there is for [?] but the young may die and the old must die this sad nuse brings past things to mind that make me feel like coming home and hope soon to have the opportunity of that but god knows how that will be but Love you must excuse this letter for this is third time that I tryed to write this letter and have to quit on acount of it being dark but will try and finish 2 night we have to day mooved to day and piched our tent for a while the boys are out 2 night with out tents but it is warm our boys are in very good health at present and eager for the fight but do not know whether we will have any hand in it or not but are ready for it if needs be they are in corrinth and we intend to be there soon our troops have been advancing on them for some time but Love we trust that this will be the last fiting we will be here there is a larg force here it would take a good while to number them off and if the rebels take us it would take all of them to gueard us and that will end the war for a while
