Head Quarters 3rd Brigade
Decatur Ala
March 5th /65

Dear Mother Ewing
Your letter of the 28 of Febuary came to hand and was read with pleasure it also found me enjoying the best of health I cannot express my feeling while reading your letter it brought to mind other days that were pased more pleasently than at the present although I enjoy my self very well but would more so if all was as I would wish it was at home if Lets health was good I could be contented but as you can imagine I pass a great many unhappy hours you may be sure she is / not forgoten by me although at times my mind is taken up with other things but soon returns

If your wishes could be fulfiled it would be of much joy to me also many more I would gladly return to my home and to loved ones who are anciously waiting for such nuse

I can imagine I see you cooking and waiting on your work hands I know the work you have to perform very well but Mother I think you are better off with out me there for it would add one more to your family also make more work it would be a hard job to get work enough out of me to pay my board for I have forgoten most of my good traits but not entirely demoralised yet there is a small chance of reform yet left

I am happy to know that you are satisfied with your new situation I think you have good cause although I donot know what kind of society you have but cannot be any worse than where you formaly were

I noticed in your letter concerning me cumming home that I would lose my position that is not the case eaven I should that would not stop me for I could go to my Regt and have as good a place as I have here I sent up an application but it was disapprooved at Division so that put a stop to it but hope soon to cum home to remain it is thought by a great many of our officers that it will not be long but it bothers the best of heads to solve it

Mother I have to own that I have not writen as often as I should / but will try and do better for I know the satisfaction it give to hear from friends we love

We have been having very high water here took away most of the railroad bridges between here and Nashville on boath roads I cannot tell when this letter will reach you I shal send it by Daniel Howe as he is out of the army and will start as soon as can Capt Wolff and Tip S Marvin are going on a leave of absence of 20 days Capt Wolff may be down there well Mother I must close this letter and write one to Let

yours truly
I am your
Son as ever
Frank
