Dear Beloved Wife
your letter of the 10 of Oct came to hand this morning was read with pleasure it also found me well but some the worse of wear for I have been on a short tramp to Bridgeport went after a team but had to dig it out of the mud a couple of times so you can imagine how I looked but I am alright now I cleaned up this morning we have conciderable nuse here at present the rebel army is near Chattanooga but we have force enough to meet him there has been about 20 trains loaded with soldiers / pased here for that place and I suppose we will have to pull out soon, but hope not, the Brigade that was to relieve us pased last night I hope they will stay there and let us remain here for I think we have done our part of running it is reported that W S Sherman is close after Hood, if so Hood will be in a tight place soon I hope they will. it is a straing moove but we cannot see as far as W S can, he knows what he is about far better than we do. he let them come around him, and then comes along be hind, but it will be much to the displeasure of Hood
