Dear Let
Having time this evening I will write you a fiew lines I am well although have had a hard march but stood it well we came back last night to Atlanta but will moove to morrow but donot know where we will go but the talk is that we will go back along the railroad towards Marrietta to guard the road I hope we will I suppose you have heard of Shermans retreat it rather fooled the rebs they thought that we had fel back across the Chattahoochee river / they had a jolifucation over it but it didnot last long for they had to fall back to save their bacon the army mooved to the right one corps at a time but it was not long till we were near the railroad Some 20 miles South of this place also distroid about 12 miles of the road had the army cut in to part of it was at Atlanta and part below us the rebs distroyed all they had left they burned 3 trains of cars loaded with ammunition also burned the roling mill Well Let I suppose by this time the north knows who are the lucky ones I think if the cops want to resist the draft they will have a good time of it for Sherman has troops enough to send up north to quiet their fears for them
Well Dear Let I suppose you think I have forgoten you but not so for you are never forgoten by me I am of the / same opinion I was when I married you and think more of you every day but I suppose that is natural for every one I can appreciate your love more every day I would not be deprived of you for all this worlds goods but to another subject but I donot know as it is of more importance
I received those things alright for which I am thankfull for and as for the kiss it would come very good but it lost all its savor so I will prefer the tobaco at this time for that is good yet but if I were home with you I would prefer the kiss I did not think you would think of tobaco but I find you are willing to acomodate as far as possable but I was surprised to find the tobaco it comes good for we have been on short rations for some time back we will probably receive our pay before we moove once more so you need not be / surprised to see some of it coming home I donot know how much we will get yet I donot nead much of it here So you will be my baker
I have not had a letter from you since the 22 of Aug but on acount of the road being cut at least some of the time but while we was on the march we could not get our mail for about 10 days back we was 30 miles south of Atlanta and the rebs in the city Well I must hasten as it is bed time for little boys like me I hope to hear from you soon
Love to Father Mother & Sister and self yours truly
I am your
Devoted and Faithful
Husband
