Dear and esteamd Wife
I again have the privelige of answering your kind letter of the 29 of July which came to hand on the 5 of Aug your letter was read with pleasure I assure you I cannot express my feelings when I know that I have so dear a friend as you and those letters so full of love and kindness it seams to me that your eaquels are not in being but that is natural you seem nearer to me every day that passes by but why should you not you are my only hope of happiness while I live as far as earthly things are concerned but there is a future that we all have to prepare for and a just God to meet in / judgement which should be uppermost in our thoughts but how little do we appreciate the blessings that he is daily bestoing on us I can see it very plainly here and often have I thought of my life and how ungratefull I have been to him who holds my life in his hand but many a poor soldier has lost his life while he was so nobly defending his and home and dear friends at home but how ungratefull some are for instance Copper Heads they I think are the bigest sinners on the face of the earth if there is a sinner and I feel confident there is if they came to the work at first this war would have been over long ago it seems strange that sensable men as they clam to be should entertain such opinions as they do I cannot express the feelings of my heart when I think of it and how many brave boys are loosing their lives for their country and they doing all they / can against them it hurts my feelings when I think of it

Dear Let if I have been in a hard place my feelings are tutched it seams wicked that so many men should be kiled but I change the subject but cannot help express my feelings sometimes Well Dear Let my health is very good and hope this may find you improoving fast and soon to enjoy the comforts of health I would give most any thing but you if this war was over so I would be permitted to return to the loved of my heart but that is not the case but hope soon it may be I donot know as I have any nuse to write it is quiet with the exceptions of pickit firing we make a demonstration in our front most every evening and drive in their pickits as I suppose to draw their attention from the right we can see them double quicking their troops through town to meet us but all of no use I have not heard any particulars of the Cavalry raid as yet / but I think soon will but sincerely hope it will be successfull we have not mooved since I last wrote you spoke about going to Mothers on a visit hope you will have a good visit well Dear Let I must close as I want to write a letter to S Aumend yet give my best wishes to all write soon
