Dear Beloved Wife
Most gladly I embrace the present opportunity of answering your letter of the 24 of July it came to hand the first of this mounth it was read with pleasure I am happy to read a letter from you at any time it brings pased times to memory and many happy hours that I have spent in your society which I hope may be my lot to experience such days once more but cannot tell how that will be at times things look promising and at times look dark but I supose that is because I am ancious to have this war end but want it done right or not at all Well Dear Let we have not taken Atlanta yet but will some of these days not far distant / four Corps on our left went to the right which leaves the 4 on the left there has been 3 heavy battals since we came in front of Atlanta and was reported that the 23 Corps fought them yesterday but cannot tell as yet how it is but the last one they came up with their guns on their shoulder they were so drunk they did not know what they were doing our men fought them in front and rear they would drive them back one side and then turn on the other the rebs got in the rear of our troops but they had to give up the enterprise as a bad job the three fights the Rebs lost over 30 000 men our loss was 3,200 in all I cannot say how correct this is but in our front I know they lost ten to one this I know to be so I have been having very good times since here although have to watch for some of those tea kettls that come over here but I donot know of 2 men being wounded and one kiled they were / behind a little tree the one that was kild was setting down it struck the tree pased through hit him in the back they belonged to 65 OVI the Colonels orderly was wounded last night by a ball from some of our own guns he is a brother John Hahns of DeKalb but not serious I am anciously waiting to hear who is drafted but is a mounth yet well I suppose that some of those pets will have to come this time I wonder if Harlys boys will take a tramp this time for the west there is more that would not like it any better well I guess I must wait and see before I can decide this matter I wish they were in the field now it would not take long to close this rebelion if so it men that we want
Dear Let you spoke about some of the troops having hard times in the east I expect they have but it was on the acount of their communication being they they must be Western Va I guess Po has found out that he cannot go down celler and help himself but he has had a good time the most of the time since he has been out /
well Dear Let I must close tendering you my best wishes and hoping your health may recover and in the enjoyment of good health once more my health is very good give my best wishes to all
I remain your ever Faithful
And Loving Husband
Frank
