Dear Let
it is with pleasure that I embrace this opportunity of writing to you my health is good at present and hope yours is the same I have not heard from you for some time but the reason is this I have not been to the regt for some time back I have been detailed to take charge of horses that have been sent back to Stevenson to be fed I expect there is letters at the regt for me but will have to wait till I return for them I should have wrote sooner had I not come here but cannot look for the same privalidges here that I would / have were I at home but I am looking forward to the time when we will be permitted to return to our homes and loved ones that are wating for us the time will soon pass away but when that time does come it will not be joy to some to hear of the deaths of some friend a Father Brother or son but those that survive will know how to appreciate such a favor Love I often look forward to the time that we may meet and I hope it may be with joy Love from what has transpired in the past you may think that I do not [stain] as I did when I left you but that is not the case for I love you as I do my own life but if I could see you I could tell you better and I donot know but you have reason to think so I have that likeness of yours & yet it looks natural as ever but would like to have another for I expect you look different than / you did or at least some older I will send you a photograph the first oppertunity I have to get one taken it is all quiet at the front as far as I know I just got back from brigport a short time ago I went to take some of Gen Rosaes Staf officers down there from this place on their way to the front but I must close this scribling soon I do not know what more to say one could wish and that is that we were permitted the privalidges we had 2 years ago but such is not the case but often think of times past [stain] have spent so pleasently to gether and I often wonder if we will be permitted to enjoy the same but time will tell how that will with this I will close from your devoted friend and Lover love to all write soon yours affectionately
