John F. Pierson to Henry L. Pierson, 1 October 1862
Willard's Hotel
Washington, D.C.
12 M. Oct. 1st 1862

Dear Father,
I have just met Mr. Whitehead and he will kindly be the bearer of this. I passed Laurel Station this morning at 7 AM The train stopped, and I got off and spoke to Col. Hathaway who stood near by—He said Henry was well and busy, and had possession of my property, both man & beast. At Willards I have found a man who has some horses to sell. Have been to look at them and only like one or two of them—a sorrel and a black or as the jockeys would say a s.h. and a b.h. The sorrel he claims is worth $225 or 50, the other 200. I will buy the first for $220, and the other for $150. I mean I would give no more than those prices. I have sent for Henry to come here if he can at once. I will send Ned and Solomon by water when I get a chance. I went to see Col. Nichols about my accounts. The whole was forwarded last Friday to me care Pierson & Co. 24 Broadway, and must be with you now, or still in the Post-Office. A letter accompanied the accounts, directing the Disbursing / Officer in NY to pay them, when a copy of the Authority by which I was recruiting was appended. Please telegraph or write to Major Sprague Supt'd't Recruiting Albany N.Y. to send you a copy at once. it is dated I think Jan'y 10th 1862. If you cannot have it (the account) found in the P.O. address Lt. Col. Nichols U.S.A. here, to that effect. It may be among the Army letters. I am going now to the Adjutant General's Office—will write again soon. Love to all

Your Aff. Son
Fred.

I inclose mem. of acct. to be collected.
