June 27th 1863.

Dear Sister
Yours of the 15th Inst. is at hand the perusal of which gave me great satisfaction. I was very glad to hear that your health is still improving nothing can do me more good than to hear that you are all well. I am still on the mend I think I will be a sound man in due time if nothing happens more than common the weather has / been so very warm that a man can hardly breathe but still the warm weather has been to my advantage on account of my cough I am still with the regt and I intend to try to stay with it untill my time is out We are still driving away at Vicksburg but we are not gaining ground on the rebs very fast. Yet we are going to have the place before we quit. our brigade made another charge on one of the rebel forts day before yesterday we took the fort but could not drive them from the rifle pits our loss was heavy our regt only lost / fifteen men only one out of our company was wounded we will charge their works in a few days. Well enough of this for the present. Dan McIntire started home this morning he is nearly well yet he has lost his right eye he will be in Georgetown before long he can give you all the particulars. We were paid off again last night for two months but I will not send any money home this time for I may need it here myself. so I will wait untill we are paid off again I was glad to hear that my money had got home all right for I had not heard / from it untill I got your last letter. I am not uneasy about you and David taking care of it for I know you will take just as good care of it as I would myself I must now close for the present by asking you to write soon and often rest contented about me for I will do the best I can under the circumstances

give my compliments to all who may inquire

your Brother
