Camp Curtin Sunday
Oct 27th 1862
Dear Sarah. I received on last friday your letter dated the 19th Inst I was very glad to hear from you all and to now that you ware all well and getting along reasonable well Dear Mussy on the same day you rote to me I mailed a letter to you and enclosed ten dollars in it which if all is rite you must have it by now and three days after I sent you ten dollars by express which you will get at the express office in/it aught to be their by this time I have only received twenty seven dollars yet I kept seven dollars I will have to by a pair of boots and a vest I done a very simple trick when I sent my vest home The goverment dose not find the soldiers in vests I have had no vest to ware since I came to the army if you should have any chance by any person coming from Brookville to this camp send my cloth vest to me it is raining to day for the first time it has rained since I left/left home it is very sickly in our Reagement at the present time Thy are fifty sick soldiers in our hospitele at the present time it is very hard now on the nurses I do not get more then 3 or 4 hours sleap now per nite it takes up our hole time in giving them medisin and attending to the sick Thy was one man died this morning by the fever his name is Wm Orr and lived near corcica he will be sent home he was a member of our company Company I. we lifted a collection to send him home I cant rite any more for want/time I was glad to hear that Oliver & Mary was living with you I wish you to be good to them I am in good health at this time hoping that you all engoy good health also I send my love to you and all my friends write to me often I have sent to you 3 little books that I received from our preacher as a present I have red them I have no way of keeping them here write to me often good by to you all at present I remain your loving husband
