Dear mother and sister
I recived your letter and was glad to hear from you am well and i hope this will find you the same i think that we shall come come home this winter to stay i wish i cold see mr Tutt i think we cold do well to gether and when i come we will try and see what we can do i hant got no pay yet the paymaster was hear last week and he sed he was going to pay us the 15 of next month and we will have 4 month pay then and i shall send it home to you i think of you all but i / cant come now i wish i cold But time will come i gess and i shant git shot in the back i will bet i come hear to fight and i will do my share of it if i have a chance to i dont no what to think of meley we ar on maryland hights yet and have a good time hear we hav got log houses bilt and it is nice but i dont no how long we shall stay hear i think that we will go over in Vergia again and fore fun then i got a letter from mary and she sed that curl was mared i think if i was at home i cold make you git well i would lick you 2 or 3 times a day i think that / would do you good i think sister i think of you all and feel sorry fore you all and if i had a father i would not feel so But we will let that go as soon as i git my pay i will send it home we will git 4 monts pay this time i no that mother wants some money and i think of it ever day i hant bin home sick yet and i hant had enney very hard times yet i cant write enney more now tell mr tutt to write me to and so good by
