Benjamin S. Sutton to Osborn Barnard, 14 April 1863
Bloomington Apr 14th 1863

Brother Osborn.
I have just finished settling with A Barnard and am indebted to you both in dollars and cst $1564.00 and four times as much good will. He has got an order that I gave to Freeman Jones on you of $122.50 dated June 27th 1861. which was settled on the 28th of Jan 1862 and if you remember at that time the order was not found and it was late in the evening and you said you would destroy it or give it to at some other time. You remember we settled up all of our accounts Jan 28th 1862 / and I gave my note for the difference which then existed between us which was $89.69. I wish to remember the facts and write them to A. I said that we settled up all accounts but was mistaken for you remember that I used 996 ft of that pine fencing that we did not settle but settled it to day. I want you to recolect if you can about that order and write to Amos about it. I want to buy 500 bush of corn and want you to let me know what you wil take for it at the crib my head is so full of business at present that / I cant think of much local news and I don't remember only what I mean to revenge. Our noted tobacco monkey, you know who I mean Gid Fowler drew his revolver on me last wednesday night after getting out of my reach. I have not time to describe the scene but you can know that he considered his Copper-head in danger of getting crushed under my heel or he wouldn't have run out his fang, but the fang never will stop me from takeing Copperheads if they dont get away from me as I am a going in town to meet / Brother and sisters that have been makeing you a visit in dixie.

Hopeing you will write soon I remain as ever broter
Ben Sutton
