Council Bluffs. May 2d 1853.
Mr. Osborn Barnard of McLean County Illinois shipped from St Louis to this place to McConnel Ho goods to the amount of one hundred and sixty three dollars and 60 cents. Said Barnard also shipped to same house for Peter Mason the sum of two hundred and eleven dollars 55 cents, which goods were lost on the Steam Boat Kansas, which money I am to endeavour to collect for said Mason & Barnard in goods from John McMechan Ho of St. Louis, which goods I am to dispose of to the best advantage, and after deducting from the proceeds thereof a reasonable compensation am to transmit by draft the balance to Amos Barnard of McLean County Illinois, Bloomington Post office
