Dear Parrents
I received your letter of the 25 to day and how pleased I was to hear from you and to know that you was all well you had not got my last letter when you wrote I wrote as soon as I received the box you sent me I got the box day after christmas it came all right evry thing as good as when put in the box not a thing spoilt and you dont know how refreshed I was when I eat a peace of the pie the turkey was more than good donuts and evry thing one apple Herman name on and / one with Eddies name the candy walnuts and evry thing was good now it is a new year I wish you all a happy new year you said that you went to new haven and staid with Katie one night found hur well and said that she was coming out the next morning I hope she will enjoy hurself while there I wish that I could be there with hur I should enjoy the sleighing while it lasted I hope you will have a nice time while Katie is with you Mary now dont make Katie sing to much for it dont do hur throat anny good it makes it worse you tell hur not to sing to much wont you we had 27 more recruits come / yesterday we have now 85 men in our company and it keeps me pretty bisy onley 2 years more and then I will be out of the servis if my life is speard and I have to stay the time I am hear in my new log house 4 of us and it is warm and comfitable as can be expected I am in good spirits and keep up good courage and want to see the war closed I hop there will be peace before long it look like it now for sherman is doing the work he has taken savanah I dont think the war will last long I hope not O how glad we will be when we hear that peace is declard it will be a day of rejoiceing I think I will close now / for there aint mutch news to write this time give my love to all and take a good shear your selfs remember me to Katie and tell me what a good time you all had love to all
