Dear Parrents
 
                                    I received your most welcom letter 3 days a go and ought to of answerd it before but tell the fact I have not had time untill to day for sundays we have a little more time than others you say that you have sent me a nother box it has bin 11 days on the way you say you sent it the 25th I hope it will arive soon I think it will be hear before long and come all right the one Katie sent was opend and evry thing all mashed up I felt bad / for I thought so mutch of getting some thing good Mother I am a fraid that you are putting your self in to mutch trouble to send things to me I tell you I know how to apreciate them I think of my home often and evry thing comes to mind and I can tell how the things all look how is the old house dose the roofs leak it seams as if I was a shingling and herman was helping me and Eddie playing with the old shingles I wish that I was there and I hope the time aint far distent when I will be home to my friends once more there is a talk of peace I hope it will come soon how happy we all will be / I am hear in my log house with a good fire and contented with my lot I am in good spirit and keep up good courage and cant but help thinking that the war is verry near to a close I dont worry myself a bout nothing and that is the onley way to get a long how is father getting a long this cold winter I soppose he is buisey as ever how is Henry James Aunt and uncle Lyman wall I cant think of anny thing more this time so I will close hoping to hear from you soon give my love to all and shear a good part yourselfs this is from your son                       Miles L Smith
