Richmond Va June 23rd /65.
 
Dear Sister And Parrents,
 
                                    I received your most welcom letter this morning and you must excuse me for not writing you before now, dont think that I have forgotton you because I have not I often think of you all and think how I enjoyed myself while with you dont I wish that I was there wal I guess I do have not had a laugh since how is things in milford I soppose evry thing flourishing what is father doing I soppose hard to work tell him not to work to hard / for I want to do something when I come home dont know when that will be I soppose betwene this and fall what do you think. I should of writen to you before but thought that I might be musterd out evry day and would not be in a hurry to write but I have come to a conclusion to write anny how discharged or not good idear dont you think so there is not mutch news hear at present we had a review the other day of the 24th Army corps and it raind all of the time we was wet through that is nothing for a solder we had 40 recruits from / the 21st Conn last saturday they was what was left the remainder was discharged and gone home pretty good thing looks like they was going to keep us they have used the 10th rather mean ever since we first came out in all fights and now keep us untill the last they wont have manny when we get paid off for the men say they will leave when we renlisted we was to be discharged when the war was over and now the war is over why dont they discharge us it is a disgrace for our government to keep us and if they ever get / a man to enlist out of the 10th regt a gain they will be smart I would not believe them a gain for they dont do as they agreed to do so let it go if they keep us they do I shant worry but keep up good courage I am well tuf as a not and tand a verry little the weather is verry warm plenty of showers that makes it cooler that is all this time give my love to all uncles and Aunts and take a good part yourself from your Brother Miles
 
PS tell Eddie that I have the gunn for him bring it home when I come tell Herman to be a good boy I will send you 2 papers the Richmond times and Whig
