Dear Parrents
 
                        I received your most welcom letter to day and pleased to hear that you all was well and enjoying your selfs you say that they expected to have a big time in new Haven and Bridgeport just as if we could not have a big time down in Dixie you would of thought so if you had bin hear they kept it up all day and night fireing Band playing drums fife and I was glad when the fourth was over but it dont / come but once a year and this was the greatest fourth ever known and I hope by the next fourth that I will be home may be before but I dont let my mind runn a way thinking that I am coming home yet I can stay as long as they can they owe me 334 Dollars now and I think they will owe me more before I come home when I come I will take you in supprise a gain how is that the last of July I tell you I am contented most anny whear but more so to home dont I wish that I had some of the peas and custard / pie I and Katie will be out in milford by the first of August so keep up good courage for I do and I think you ought to to home I should of liked to of seen Charles first rate is he discharged Dont think that I have got to stay my time out I told you when I was home that I would be home by the first of August and it may be so yet there is a boy hear onley 2 years old weighs over two hundred pounds it is on its way to Barnums New york love to all shear a good part your selfs remember me to Katie write soon from Brother Miles
