Jacob S. Winans to Isaac Winans, 13 April 1863
Minors Hill Va
April 13th/63
Dear Father
I received your letter last night. Was very glad to hear from you.
I have just written a letter to Elsie, have written all the news I know of, but I thought I would enclose a note to you. I sent $60.00 by Capt Taggart to Pittsburg to be expressed to you. I sent it that you might pay in the balance of that stock before the 1st of May so that you can draw the dividend for the full six shares.
We have not been paid yet. I dont know why it is that we have to wait so long. I would (as far as I am concerned) rather / wait until after the first of next month, then I would get two months pay. I will attend to that matter for Mrs Vanlier as soon as the men get some money. I have been very well since I came back. The vacancy in this Co has not been filled yet. I think that Sergt Marshall will get it.
Col. Anderson has not been reinstated yet. Lt. Col. Snodgrass is in command of the Reg't.
My commission is dated Dec 7th. I am the 8th in rank. I should have been fourth but I think there was some zinging somewhere.
I am Your affc't Son
