Jacob S. Winans to Isaac Winans, 27 April 1863
Washington Apr 27th
Dear Father
I have just returned from the city, or rather from the other end of it. I was down to be mustered I found that I could not have it done until I could get my commission as Lieut. I wish you would send it to me immediately. It is necessary that I be mustered before we are paid again.
I sent by express to you $645.00 to be distributed as I have directed in a note enclosed in the package.
The persons for whom it is intended will call for it.
I am quite well. Have not time to write any more at present.
I am
Your Affectionate Son
J.S.Winans /
P.S. I have collected almost 25.00 for the purpose of putting up a tombstone for Dennis Vanlier. I will send it to you this week.
J.S.Winans
