J. E. B. Stuart to Kenton Harper, 12 June 1861
Head Qrs Camp Clover
8PM June 12th 1861
Col;
As no crossing has been effected by the canal hands at Honeywood, and as it was only in such an event that the movement of the 2 Cos of this your regt was sent ordered to this point, I will send them back tomorrow.
If you can possibly lend me a Field piece and a few rounds I promise to return it in 24 hours.
I relieved Capt Hardesty's Co of the picket at Shaffers, but expected him to continue the one at Dam no 4
The Cavalry under my command are very hardly worked, as the picket & patrol duty are very heavy. I will apply for Capt Drake's in my next to Genl Johnston—
Very Respectfully
Your Obt svt
J.E.B. Stuart
