Dear sister;
I received your letter where G. D. Buswell brought down for me. I am well at present, and hope these few lines will find you all well. I was sorry to hear that Martin Rothgeb lost his wife. There is right smart sickness down here in camp. Ed. Rothgeb was right sick for a bout one week, but he is near about well now. Peter Miller was complaining a couple days but he is well now. The rest of my mess is are well at present. I heard from John Hite & David, John is dead and David was left at Gettysburg to wait on the wounded. Dan Weekly brought the newes, he was left at Gettysburg wounded, he was paroled and sent home. he said that after John died, David harvest a couple days for a man
I got everything that you sent to me, and was glad to received it. I empted my apple butter out of that pot, and will send it back home again, as I have a good chance to send it home. Peter Miller has a box here that he is going to send home. I will send it home in that box, so you can get it at Sam Miller. I will also send my dirty shirt home by him. You stated in your letter that Isaac Hite said we were going out to tenessee. I dont think we will have to go out there. their was some talk about it. Two of Longstreet's division were sent out there, so I dont think they will send us. Everything is quiet a long the lines as far as I know. Gen. Ewell's corps had a review on the ninth of Sept. by Gen Lee. I will let you know where to direct your letters when I go to tenessee. Nothing more at this time. Write soon;
I remain your brother, Ambrose M. Hite.
