George A. Wood to Mother, 30 June 186X
Philad'a June 30/6[?]
Dear Mother
You must have heard that Edward was wounded in the hand He arrived at our house last night, at midnight and is very comfortable & is doing well. he takes care of & dresses the wound himself, but we have prevailed on him to have Dr Norris called in & he will see him this afternoon, though he says, he don't want any one, & that it is doing very well he is very cheerful, goes out, & expects to be / himself again very soon. He would go to Brookline, but he says he w'ld be completely run down with visitors and he prefers to be quiet, wh he can be here; only we are in the confusion of preparations for moving wh we shall do, in a few days. they will keep us in an unsettled state for two weeks at least; but we shall take good care of Ned, & we are very glad to have him here, to take care of. I w'ld not be surprised if he sh'ld "take it into his head" to go to Brookline bye & bye, after all. Excuse haste
