May Elizabeth Terrell (maiden name: Perkins) was born on March 11, 1822, in Georgia. She married Peter O. Terrell in Troup County, Georgia, on March 5, 1840, and they had at least two children: Mary Frances, born around 1841; and Cleveland, born around 1844. The family moved to Uniontown, Alabama, sometime in the early 1840s. In 1850, her husband was working as a “Grocery Keeper,” and they owned $1,000 of real estate. A decade later, Peter was working as a clerk, and they had $2,000 of real estate and $300 of personal property. By 1870, Peter and May were living in their daughter’s household in Uniontown. Peter was working as a farmer, and May was earning money as a dress maker. Her husband died in 1872, and May continued to live with her daughter until the 1910s. She died in Alabama on September 21, 1912.
