Esther H. Lippincott (maiden name: Cawley) was born on August 27, 1838, in New Jersey to Jonathan and Esther Cawley. Her father was a farmer who owned $25,900 of real estate by 1850. She grew up in Pilesgrove, New Jersey, and she married Asa Lippincott on February 10, 1859. They had at least three children: Carrie, born around 1862; Joseph, born around 1866; and Ella, born around 1868. They lived in Harrison, New Jersey, and her husband worked as a farmer. By 1870, they owned $20,000 of real estate and $1,800 of personal property, and they employed at least one white domestic servant. By 1910, she and her husband were living in their son Joseph’s household in Harrison. Her husband died in May 1912, and she died in Harrison in June 1912.
