Charles Leaman to Mary E. Leaman, 5 May 1863
N. Yard Washington May 5th /63
Sis
I received your letter last Sunday, and since I have read it over a couple of times, I have come to the conclusion that Mother has had some more of her truthfull dreams, as she and Papa guessed so well that I was sick, and that that was the cause of my not writeing for at the begining of last week I had a very severe attack of spring fever, but I think by the time this shall have reached you I will be intirely recovered and will be able to put away a usual portion of my ration daily. I was out in town last Saturday and I went up to the pattent office to see / Mr Warfell, and while I was there I weighed my self, and I was glad to see that my illness did not put me down any as I weighed 1.41 lbs, 6 lbs more than I ever weighed at home. The reason I did not mention my illness in my last letter, I thought it would be best to wait untill I seen there was no danger. Last Thursday was just the same as Sunday here in the Yard, nothing was going on at all. we wher not allowed our regular liberty even, only to go to church and two sailors because they would not go, where confined and are still. The weather is very pleasant here now, but I am afraid it will soon get to warm. Every thing is going on as usual. I will now close wishing to be remembered to all inquireing friends and much love to all.
Charley
