Charles Leaman to Mary E. Leaman, 11 May 186X
N. Yard Washington May 11th
Sis.
I received your letter just as I came in from town, from seeing Jack and his regt. They look very hard, but not any more so than would be expected, just comeing out of a battle and a pretty hard one to. I was only with Jack about an hr. and I sorry I could not stay longer with him. I think he looks very well and if any thing beter than when he started, but his clothes are like all the rest of them very hard looking, which I think looks better on Vol. comeing home than better ones. They will surprise you comeing home as much as they did me I suppose for I new nothing about it untill Jack came to the gate. I thought Gen. / Hooker would keep them to help him out, so I think it is a very good sign that he is not in a bad way at all or he would of kept them or at least asked them to stay. Yesterday I saw them marched off to attend the funeral of Gen. Whipple. There is nothing new going on here at all the weather is geting very warm and this afternoon I think would make hay as fast as you would turn it, which you may know is very bad weather for my complaint. I will now close remember me to all inquireing friends and much love to all
Charley.
