Sis
I am now siting in the same place, as when I wrote to you before, but every thing is still and quiet now as the men have all gone to dinner, but in the course of a half an hour they will all be at work again, and will continue working ontill six. This afternoon is as hot I think as any we have had this summer, but I think it will bring on a rain which we need very much for we have not had any for a long time, and every thing seems to be burning up for the want of it. The usual Monday morning performances of drill, dress parrade, guard mount, and inspection, has cepet us all most all forenoon / from five Oclock buisey, which prevented me from writeing to you this morning, so this letter will be one day longer geting to you. I was glad to see in those clips of the Express that you sent me, that Old Penna is not going to be late in geting her forces to defend her borders this time, and although I do not think there is much danger of her being invaded. All though there might be such a thing that they can force their way up, but I think it would be harder to force it back, but at the same time I think it would be no mistake for all of her Militia that can be spared from their homes to go and learn their drill at any rate, and it will not only disharten the Reb's in the south, but allso the coperheads in the north, of which there seems / to be a great many near you, and I hope that this conscription will make them all show their colors, so we can know who they are. If any thing of the cind should hapen, that the Rebs would come up, I would not be surprised to here of us being called out for we have been called out be fore, and now we can raise a batallion of two companies from here and the Barracks. There was a batallion at the first Bull run and some of the fellows are here yet, and there is allso some here that was on the Congress, and Cumberland.
Miley has been sent to sea, I think to the Mississippi on what boat I do not know. I will now close wishing to be remembered to all inquireing friends.
Charley.
