Charles Leaman to Mary E. Leaman, 15 September 1865
Charlestown Sept 15th/65

Sis:
I received yours of the 12th this morning and as I am not engaged I will answer immediately as you wish me, although it is the seccond time I have writen you this week.

I will not attempt to write a letter but mearly answer your question which you appear so ancious to know. I am in no regular formed company or batallion, but mearly belong to the U.S. Marine Corps & stationed at the Marine Barracks, Charlestown, Mass.

I hope you are not troubling / yourselves or puting any one to any unnecessary trouble about me, for it is a matter of very little importance whether I am to serve another year or not, as long as I am favored with good health.

I do not doubt but Annie's influence is of a right character to work the desired end, and the use of it so freely offered is highly appreciated. With as much hopes as there may be of success, I trust you are not flattering yourself too highly at my getting home, for your hopes may all end in disappointment.

Charley.
