Henry Leaman Jr. to Henry Leaman, 7 October 1865
Phila. Oct. 7th/65

Dear Father
I expected some one would be in the city to-day.

As not, I am under the necessity of writing. I propose to furnish the adjoining room to my present office, And to use the back room for sleeping instead of the room up stairs. This will save me during the year the first cost of the furniture. It will also enable me to answer night calls better; which although not many at present, yet I must be ready for them. To make the change will take about seventy five dollars; and I shall be under the necessity of asking that amount from you; as my practice will not likely yield / me that sum during the present month. I should like to make the change next week if it does not put you to too much trouble.

Ask Jack whether he has noticed that the St. Nicholas pay's a dividend of 4 per ct. on the origonal stock, on and after the 9th ins't & whether it will not bring me at least one week's board.

Business with me is beginning to look like a start. I have made four dollars & half ($4.50) this week & collected eight ($8) with the promise of the same amount next week. I have made enough now to come home as soon as Sis lets me know when Com[?] takes place.

                        I am well

much love to all—
Harry
