Charles Leaman to Mary E. Leaman, 14 October 1865
Saturday afternoon, Oct 14th/65

Sis,
I have this afternoon to myself so I will write.

To day there has been much excitement here and is one that is looked forward to by every soldier with pleasure. All the Marines on this Post have been paid to day. Quite a number where descharged, and more given furloughs, the same as myself / having just come from sea. There was quite a number of the Niagara's Guard descharged, some as much as eight months over their time, kept over because they where at sea. In all there was some fifty men left the barracks to day, so now it is very quiet.

I have not heard from Harry since my last writing, but I am glad to hear he is meeting with some encouragement, for without he does, I would not be surprised if he would follow the example of his Uncle.

I am well.
Charley.
