Dear sister
I recived a letter from you this morning and was glad to here from you well we are all well at presant but I supose that you are not aware of our move we are now in the plase that is cald the falls they are the first ones that ever I seen they are a most butiful seen you wold not belive the plase we are plased in there is some of the largest rocks here that ever I seen we are 18 miles from Tennally Town and 24 from washington we are within sight of Gen Bankes pickets and only a few yards in some plases from the Rebels we can see them at all times theyr guards and ours talk to one an other evry day our boys cross the Potomac I was over yesterday to see them we have told them not to shoot and they say that they will not if we do not they ware / a gray uniform the kind that our 3 months boys ware they have the best kind of sharps rifels and plenty to eat and ware the report that they have nothing to ware is not true they have plenty so far as I can see they say that they wer whiped 3 times at the Bull Run fight and if they had not got an reenforsement that our troops wold have manasas they in tend to fight us shortly. how soon we do not know nether do they the troops at Tennally town are all under marching orders they will cross the river soon there will be a fight soon you may depend on it for we will get so close that they can not help from fighting well I have told you all the news that I can think of about the Rebels so I will close I do not know whether the D is in the city of washington or not but I do not think that I will see him for we will not go to camp to next week on monday by that time he will be gon well If I do / not see him I will get the things that you sent I will try to get down to camp to day to see him if I can get a pass I am very much obliged to all of you for your trouble towards me and hope that you will not think hard of me not writing sooner to you I have only got 2 letters from home sins last friday well I must close Give my love to Miss lide stewart and all the rest I have got the worst pen that ever I rote with so you must look over this Good by write soon till then I am your Brother Samuel Lyon
PS we have not got our pay yet but we will get it soon we have got 2 months pay coming to us on the 22 of this month
