Betsey Nichols (maiden name: Richardson) was born on September 24, 1806, in Woodstock, Connecticut, to Alpheus and Betsey Richardson. She married Proctor Richardson in Sturbridge, Massachusetts, on March 24, 1827, and they had at least five children: Alpheus, born around 1835; Lucius, born around 1837; Sarah, born around 1840; Samuel, born around 1842; and Fayette, born around 1845. The family lived in Brookfield, Massachusetts, and Proctor worked as a farmer. By 1850, they owned $2,500 of real estate. A decade later, they had $2,800 of real estate and $800 of personal property. Betsey died in Brookfield on February 23, 1875.
