Sabbath day Oct the 27th/1861
Dear sister
I recived your welcom letter last night and was glad to here that you are all well you say that you have a notion to scold me for not writing to you for a week well I rote to you 3 times this last week if you do not get the letters I cannot help it I rite evry day in the week I am very glad that How Lyon has got well again but he had better stay at home or he will get sick again you say that Ruth Ellin Brown got some letters from the soldiers well it is time that she wold answer my last letter I rote to her a good while ago you say that it is most dreadfull cold there well so it is here but we have got evry thing that we need to winter sets in I got the letter you spoke of and burnt it with 69 others I have got over 100 letters since I come to camp but do not got meny now I have quit writing since we have got on the sacred soil of virginia and of course do not get so many as I used to in camp Tennally
I was not well yesterday but am well this morning the boys are all well they are all able for there grub but some times it is not redy for them they give it to the cook then well I will close to after church preaching is out and then will finish 11 oclock we are again in our tents we are all quiet here this is the most like old times of eny day since we come out we had a grand review yesterday out here all of the Pennsylvania Reserve Core Gen McColl and staff we had our Brass band out for the first time they will do well they wer out in the 3 months campain and are from the State of Indiana we have some of the best looking felows ever come out to soldier I will take one home with me when I go he is the best looking young man ever I saw and is from Duquesne his name is [?] Woods you say that you got acquanted with Miss smith of Duquesne what do you think of her is she good looking when did you here from Henry Nasmith I have not herd from him since I come away from home / tell him that he must come out here or he is a coward when did you here from west [?] you got a letter from Milt white If I live to get home I will go out west to see all of my frinds then I will settel down at home and go to work there to content my self for a few years well this is one of the letters and do not let any body see it write soon I will not write much more for you will get tired trying to make sence of it do not forget to tell Maggi and Lid stewart that I saw Georg simpson he sends his best wishes to them I found him in company G of the 9 Reg and I made his actquentins he is a fine fellow Dave simple sent his best respects to all of the friends all of the boys in Blacks Reg is well only Al Robb well we got an invitation to the 7 Reg so I will go to here ther chaplain write soon I sent home for a box send me one if it will suit you
