Sabbath day March 20th 1862
 
            Dear Sister I onsed more sit down to give you a few lines to let you know that we are still in the land of the living and still in the enjoyment of good helth. we took up the line of martch on day before yesterday to parts unknown to us we arived at Warenton Station where we wer took to a field and camped we was payed yesterday and will start tomorrow for the banks of the Rappanock River which is 15 miles distence our boys had a fight on the day before yesterday / in which 11 of our men wer kiled they routed the enimy we may expect to have some hot work to do now. Sis you need not think hard of me not writing for we will only get the mail onced a week now you need not write to me more than 2ced a week now and you need not send me eny more stamps for I have plenty to do me now for a long time I got some yesterday as news are scarse I will not write much. I did not tell you how we came here we came by rail road but on part it was hard traveling we came 12 miles I [faded] to / see Charley Cook yesterday he is well I will not venture to send eny money home now for 2 resons one is I cant send it by Express and do not like to send by mail and I do not know when we will be payed off again and if we martch I will need a good deel of it for when we martch our ration is not anough so we buy the helth of the Company is good it is very disagreeable day. it is wet.
 
I never had better helth I do not want our father to be unesy about me for I will write as often as I can 
 
Now about Henry [?] he is a fine young man and very good looking is a Corporal of this Comp and one of the color guard he is from Duquesne of late he was raised in Butler Co he used to work for Sol Bowars. he is one of my mess mates and a very agreeable fine young man I will not write home for some time so you may know that I am still living. I must close give my best wishes to all of the friends and write soon.
