Camp fort Fredricksburg
June 1st AD 1862
 
            Dear Sister
                                    I received yours in due time and the likness and all came safe I will now sit down to answer it as this is the first dry hour we have had for 2 days I have not had a dry stick of close on me for 2 days I think that we will get dryed off today there is not eny other troops here now only McColls Division the first Brigade was over the river and came back yesterday I think that we will go tomoro and stay there this is a very important town 
 
they have begin to pay off this brigade they payed the 3rd Regt yesterday I do not know when they will pay us I am not out of money yet I will have anough to do me for a good time yet and we have bought nerly all we eat since we came to this place for we cannot get provisions here like we cold at Pierpont. but there is one thing that we can not get that is stamps and stamped envelopes I have sent the last letter I sent home I sent without eny stamp. the helth of the troops are improving I forgot to tell you the result of the election / well the 2nd Sirgent Jacob Biers was elected by one of a majority. as news are scarse I will close hoping to here from you soon

I did not send this away yesterday so I thought that I wold just write one word more it has got dry we had no rain last night we have not moved yet I told you that I cold not get eny stamps I made out to get some to day 
 
we have no drill to day I am sory to tell you that we lost another of this company P B Johnston he died at the hospital washington so I was told last night
