John M. Sullivan to Henry B. Lyon, 1 April 1863
Washington, April 1, 1863.

Mr. H. B. Lyon
            Duquesne, Pa.

My Dear Sir:
By the endorsement from Gen. Heintzelman's Head Quarters on the enclosed letter of Col. Quay, which I received last evening, you will see that Dr McQuade and yourself may obtain passes to visit the Bull Run battle field.

I regret the delay. It seems to have been unavoidable, owing to the unsettled state of affairs in the neighborhood of Centerville during the winter.

You can, of course, consult your convenience now in the selection of the time of your coming.

My tenderest / solicitude hovers over your hospitable mansion, constantly. You have two there who have become endeared to me by many ties. Under the kindly influences of your attractive home, I trust the brave sufferer, and his heroic attendant, may soon be able to go on their way rejoicing.

To each of them—to yourself and family; allow me to tender the assurance of more than a friendly regard.

Truly Yours
John M. Sullivan
