Mr Lyon:
                       
Sir: The fortunes of war having placed us in rather destitute circumstances we are forced to ask of you, as the greatest possible favor, that you send us or cause to be sent to us, in four separate boxes, the following articles: 200 lbs. Pilot Bread 100 lbs. Bacon 40 lbs. Onions 40 lbs Dried Apples 12 lbs Navy tobacco 8 lbs of Soap 1 Sheet-iron Kettle to hold 6 qts 1 light Frying Pan:
 
For which we or either of us pledge ourselves to repay you at the earliest opportunity; or by applying to the following persons you can be repaid immediately: For my share of the expense apply to Philip Weber Cross-cut Lawrence Co. For J. M. Greves, to P. S. Greves Portersville Butler Co For Wm H. H. Kennedy to John Kennedy farmer Tarentum Allegheny Co. For Daniel Graham to Hiram Graham Petersburg Butler Co Distribute the articles equally among the boxes & send one to each of us
