R. B. Boylston to William H. C Whiting, 12 April 1861
Head Quarters Com: Dep:
Morris Island Apl 12th '61

            Sir,
I have the honor to report, after making every enquiry and examination, to the best of my ability, in every quarter, Regimental and Company—

1st,       That the troops have been as satisfactorily provided for here, as the emergency of the case has admitted of, and that there is not a reasonable cause of complaint, because of the thorough preparation made by the Commissary General in Charleston.

2nd,      That by the aid, which the Act'g Ass't Qr Mr Gen'l and his assistants have rendered me, in reciprocation for such services as I have been able to extend to them, at intervals of my engagements, matters have progressed more satisfactorily than than might have been expected.

3rd,       That I availed myself of the opportunity of the Volunteer crew, which bore your despatch to / the City to-day, to suggest to the Commissary General, to forward further supplies as rapidly as possible, for the supply is short, if we are detained here for several days.

4th,       That without an office or other assistance than a volunteer brother I have not been able to conduct in thorough form; but I have had furnished thus far all supplies, as ordered or needed, requiring them of any Commissary who could possibly spare them, by written order for future protection, being without blanks and having slender stationery.

5th,
I have the honor to be
Very Respectfully
Your obdt Servt
