Washington Sep 9th 1863
 
Dear Father Mother Sisters & Brothers
I now take pen in hand to write a few lines to you to let you know how i am i am about the same as i have been some days i feal very well then again i am kindy off of the hooks and feal bad but now i feal very well i have a pain in the side at times and i have the cronic diarrea and have had it for about eleven months some times it will nearly stop then it will come on again as bad as ever i spoke to the Doctor this morning about going before the board for examination he sayed he would try and have me examined this week / so i think i shall soon know what they are going to do with me i have been paid 2 months pay that is all i could get now i had no Discripative list so i could not get my 4 months pay and i have not had any check so i have not had my last bounty yet it has been due about 6 weeks there is a lot of the boys that are being sent to their Reg to day and then there is a lot to go tomorrow i am not afraid of being sent there is not mutch to write about it is getting late and i must close.
 
Washington DC Sept 10 as i did not finish my letter yesterday i thought i would write a few lines more and send it today i am about the same / as i have been for some time there is no change of importance to write about they are sending a lot of men to their Regs now since they have been paid off there was about 60 taken up on the street yesterday they were drunk and some of them wer fighting there was 40 sent to their Reg this morning and about 50 going tomorrow so if they keep on for a week they will get this hospital cleaned out there is a lot of the men that are on extra duty here that are ordered to go before the board for examination this after noon i guess i shall go before the board tomorrow but i cannot tell as yet i cannot think of anything more to write about Give my love to all
