Dear Mother Father Sisters & Brothers. I have not got fathers name first as i should have it but you must excuse mistakes how do you all do i received Rebeccas kind letter this morning and was very glad to hear from you all and more so to hear that you are all well i for my part am glad to say I am no wors as i can sea i have the same old complaint on me that i used to have the phthisic it comes on to me every time i catch cold then i have sutch a pain in my side nearly all the time and then / i have had the diarrea nearly all the time since i left home but i am able to stand it i guess by the help of God i will try and go through thick and thin i am a great deal better than when i was on the march for now i have a good bed and we have good provision and do not have to be out in the storm i tell you when i came here it seamed like a palace for i had been out through all the storms for nearly 40 days and on the march nearly every day and some days ower journey after the Jonnies Grey Backs was from 30 to 40 miles so you can judge whether we lay still long or not we some times got into camp at 8 oclock at night and sometimes not untill 2 / oclock then we got ower supper and went to bed then before day light the Bugal would sound for us to get up and get ower breakfast then take ower trunk on ower back and on again i have given you a few out lines of it but no pen can discribe it in full now i have given you the out lines so you can sea the diffirance betwean being here and being out faceing the Rebs where you have to ly down on the ground with your gun in your hands all loaded and ready to jump and fire at a moments notice i shall have to close for it is late and i am trying to help david Bradley cook for the Doctors he is in my company he is from Danbury he has been here with me all the / while since i left the Co.
