Dear Father Mother Sisters & Brothers I now take pen in hand to write a few lines to you to inform you that my health is about the same as usual i am able to eat my rations yet and i can go around nearly wherever i have a mind provided i donot let the Pavo guard catch me if they do then a fellow is apt to catch a shower bath at the Central Guard-house But if they catch this child they will have to get up in the morning for i have been out long enough to play a pretty strong game to get away when i get cornered. There is not mutch nuse at present The President has been sick with the small Pox but is able to attend to business again The Russian Fleet is at ancor just below the wharfe and the Commander talks of staying all winter. Congress is now in session and now the capitol is in full blast i shall try and go down to the city on tuesday and sea the Big Heads maybe i can get a chance there for something but be as it may i can get a long where i am. There is not mutch nuse here at present I received a letter from Pheebe and / one from Lutenant Quin he states that all the boys wer in very good health some of them ware complaning but they wer not very sick he was in good health he sayed Capt Daniels was home on furlough. the health of the men here is improveing there is some differance here now and when i firs came here when i came here there was near 2000 now there is but about 400 so you sea some of them have been sent a way but i am here yet and am likely to be here for a while. I have not been put in the Invalid Corps yet i told the Doctor that i should not go unless i was obliged to for i did not like it i did not enlist to go there and i was ready to go to my Reg so the Doctor sent me back for further treatment i suppose i shall get another examination before a great while it is near night and i shall have to close i send my best rspects to all hoping to hear from you soon. Leaveing you all in the care of God who doeth all things well i will close I remain as ever your loveing Sone and humble Servant
