Dear Father Mother Sisters & Brothers
I now take pen in hand to write a few lines to you in answer to the letter that i received from Sisters Jane & Josie i received it day before yesterday and was glad to hear that you wer all well and am happy to say the same for my selfe i have had another attact of the diarrea but it is better now i think i shall get an examination for the sec Batalion this comeing week i wrote a letter to Senator Foster of Conn and he was so busy that he could not come to sea me for a few days so he sent his wifes sister to let me know that he received my letter She is from Massachusetts and is connected with the Sanitary afairs of that State She sayes she will send a writen statement to him of my case and if i am of no use here she will try and get me home she sayes he will be here as soon as he is over his hurry i think i shall get a furlow or something of the kind some time this spring so be of good chear for there is good times in store for us all. there is not mutch nuse here there is a great many men reenlisting and going to the / front every day the nuse from the armie of the Potomac is good the men are all in good spirits and but little sickness in any Reg the nuse from the South is far more interesting for the Rebs sayes they shall not be able to resist mutch longer at Charleston espetialy if we attact Wilmington North Carolina or Savanna Georgia whitch points will be attacted if report is true and that in a short time the weather is warm and foggy the grass begins to look grean an soon spring will be upon us in all its splendor. You kneed not wory if you do not hear from me so often for i am out of envelops and as i did not get my pay last Pay Day i shall have to stop writing so often. there is a larg number of the men here that have the mumps and now and then a case of the small Pox but they are few. Business now is very florishing in this City the Capitol is thronged nearly every day with visitors from all parts of the country Sunday morning inspection is over and dinner is near ready we are to have Beeaf soop and potatoes i have nothing to do only sweep the stairs and scrub them once a week then i wash my shirts & drawers as i have no more to write i will close for this time leaveing you all in the care of God.
