Dear Parents Sisters & Brothers I now take pen in hand to write you a few lines to inform you that after a weeks suspence we are to stay here for a while longer after we wer ordered to pack ready for a march the Citizens of Washington sent in a petition for this Brigade to stay here this Brigade is the first Brig and is composed of the following Regts 1st 6th 9th 19th & 22d Regs. there is not mutch nuse here / only nuse from the armie that is on the moove General Grant is now within seven miles of Richmond on the north and east and has made a junction with Butler or rather Smith he is now in command of the troops at that point and Butler is now Military Govornor of Verginia and North Carolina the armie in Georgia is driving the Rebles before them as yet and the nuse from all points is as well as could be wished for General Banks has had reinforcements sent and now General / Kerby Smith is now in command in Tenesee he superseded General Banks he has relieved the [?] from their dangerous position they are now safe and on the defensive for the present the health of the armie is good the sick and woundid are gaining very fast the weather here is very warm vegatables are plenty and very nise. My health is good that is about the same as when i was home I have not been examined by the Doctor as yet but I have just had orders to report to the Doctor for examination / at 7¼ Oclock tomorrow morning As it is near time for supper i will close sending my best respects to all. write soon and give all the nuse
