Dear Father Mother Sisters & Brothers I now take pen in hand to write a few lines to inform you that my health is about the same as usual and hope these few lines will find you all enjoying good health and in the best of spirits There is but little nuse here at present or rather i hear but little for i have no desire of going to the City an i do not get a daily paper very often so you will sea that as to the nuse i am not / as well posted as i might be but i try and keepe the run of the most of it the excitement has all quieted down and every thing goes on smooth around here there is not a great deal of shipments for the armie from here business is on a sort of a stand still at this place there is glorious nuse from General Sherman he has marched over 500 miles has whiped the enemy in every engagement and is now within 2 mild of the Capitol of Georgia has captured near 100 pieces of artilery has also captured near 10.000 prisoners and about (40,000) thousand stand of / small arms has recruted ten thousand men for his armie in the Rebel States and now is about to take possession of Atlanta without a battle this is as mutch as can be asked of him for one man in 6 months i think it is a merical almost and now to General Grant he is playing the same trick on the Rebs at Petersburg he did at Vicks Burg and ear long you will hear of the rebs finding live Yankies in their forts you remember how he undermined their forts and blew them up at VicksBurg he is at it now so i am informed by men that / came from there a short time since. ther is not many sick here now there is 3 sick here now one of them is a sitazen he is on the gain and in fact all are the man that was burned so bad is now all well so i hear i have not sean him since he left there has been but one soldier died here since i have been here he was a reenlisted man or a bounty jumper and he got discoraged and to cap off with he maried one of the scapegoats of the City or the jail i should have sayed and after that he sayed he wanted to die so he got his wants supplied as it is late i will close by sending my love and best respects to all
