Dear Father Mother Sisters and Brothers I now take pen in hand to write a few lines to you acknowlageing your kind and welcomb letter and was hapy to hear that you wer all enjoying good health and I am also hapy to state that my health is about the same as usual you say in your letter that the weather is mutch cooler than it has been we have had a considerable rain here but the air is very warm here now the reason that I have been did not answer your letter before was because there has / been several sent here to the hospital there is now 9 in hospital i have been very busy getting straw and filling beds and fixing for them to be as comfortable as possible the diseases are mostly Chronic Diarrea and Typhoid Fever there is none of them that is dangerous and but one but is able to walk around yesterday the Doct nicked out one of the sick men and told him to help me. there is but little nuse here only armie nuse there has been several vessels sent away from the Navy Yard this week this morning there was one called the Double ender sent to Fortress Monroe there is several now waiting orders to leave / I was up to the City yesterday on business for the Doct there is quite an excitement here in the City about reenlisting there has several reenlisted from the Co. that I belong to but the Diarea Corps will not katch me for I never enlisted to go into it and i will never reenlist to go into it that is a sure case. when I reenlist i want to go to the field where I enlist to go and when i am unable to stay thare then i want to go to my home and not be under men that are to cowerdly to go where they are wanted and try to stop around in cities and suck their living Glory be to God if my life is spared I shall be out of their reach in just one year / from the date of this letter. There is nothing more to write about that comes to my mind so I will close
