Charles H. Morrill to John C. Currier, 29 September 1863
Camp 11th N.H.V. near Lon-
don, Kentucky Sept 29th 1863

Lt. Currier;—
Perhaps you will think strange that I take the liberty to write to you even without an invitation, but it dont make any difference. I am going to write just as often as I please and when you get back (as you are my superior) you can punish me as you please. We have not got any very eciting news since you left, therefor untill last night things have gone about the same as when you were here. Yesterday about 4 P.M. the 116th 117th 118th & 115th Indiana regiments marched in here and two regts encamped on the same side of the road that we are, and almost between the regt and and Col. H. O. Dudley's tent. They were all new regiments 6 months men, & / such a green set I never saw. Well they were just as much greener than what we were as you can think. I tell you it made sport for us while they were here. they sold their blankets many of them to the sutler for 1.50 and then went and stole another and sold that. many of the boys bought blankets and overcoats I bought two new blankets for .75. When our dress parade came off you ought to have seen them. Well they thought that the 11th beat the world. We had all we could do to get any of them near those rebs in the guard house. they seemed to think that rebs would use them worse than a bear, so they would just stand back and look as wild at them, saying "he is a savage looking fellow aint he". There was also three Batteries with them. their destenition was wherever Burnside is and perhaps you know / that better than I. The Batteries went early this morning but the infantry did not go untill near ten. Each regt was full and they had a team to each company, also regimental teams, so that they did not carry many knapsacks.

Now Charlie the Drum Corps (myself included) wish a favor of you that is that when you get to Cincinnati you will get 4 jointed C fifes now I will tell you where you can get them. As you go down Vine St. from 6 St, turn left before crossing and you will be on West fourth St now betwen there and the next St above you will see a Military Store there you will get jointed C fifes they will cost 1.50 each. You can get them where you please only get those that cost from 1.00 to /
C H. Morrill

1.50 just as you can find we want good ones be sure and remember to get C fifes for we have B now and dont want any more, get jointed ones if possible for those we can take apart and put them in our pockets.

I dont suppose it will be of [faded] to ask you to write to me for you wont get time.

Enjoy yourself as well as you can and come back as good as when you went away.

Your obediant servant
Charles Morrill
