Manuscript Fragment, undated
Friendship has no need of Explanations
It accepts what is given without question or caviling as to much or to little—leaving the giver altogether free Friendship as I understand it should have honorable reticences not only of speech but of thought In its desire of service it should never approach too near or say the word too much since if it is to flourish and obtain the grace of continuance it must be rooted in reverence for the individuality of the person dear to it—whatever confidence is reposed is sacred—whatever is withheld is sacred also—
There were times when he [?] for sight & speech of her
Ive cleaned the Hat I shall keep it clean /
Dont you understand that your friendship is price to me beyond words—
When you go I cry—When you come I [?] dance
It all right & clean & honest its good for our soul
