Dear Hester
I sincerely apologize for not writing to you more frequently since I left home, but I will tell you the true cause of my seeming negligence; since I arrived here I have been almost constantly travelling either to Harpers Ferry, Frederick or Washington with a squad of my men as escorts and in charge of recruits for different Regiments at the above named places Consequently I have not had time to write such a letter a I would like, to my dear Hester, but in future I shall endeavor to make / amends for the past, and if it were possible for me to receive a letter from you daily your Bob would only be too happy to reply as often.
We received orders yesterday to leave for Nashville, Tenn. on Monday the 11th but the order was countermanded late last night and I do not know now what time we will leave. I wish we could leave to night for if I cannot be in New York City I would rather be in the field than any other place for every time I see some fair lady acquaintance I think of New York and wish I was there
Mrs Laroze and Mrs Robinson are here Mrs. R has been for / a week and Mrs L for about ten days Mrs L wishes to be remembered and requested me to get your picture for her.
I have been trying to find out from Mrs Laroze what that secret is that you said you would tell me sometime but I cannot succeed She is as stubborn as you are excuse the expression
Col Robinson Capt Hewson & Capt Laroze send their respects to you and hope you will sometimes think of them while they are fighting for the good old flag in company with your soldier boy
You will remember me kindly to your Father & family and the three old maids
There is no news of importance to tell you so I will close,
with much love I remain
Yours Affectionately
Bob
P.S. write soon and direct
