My dear Hester
After bidding you good bye Sunday evening I went home and prepared to depart having everything ready I left the house at half past ten Sam Littlejohn & Garrie going with me; on my arrival at Jersey City Ferry to my great disappointment I learned that there was no train for Washington on Sunday night, so I was forced to return home again, but I got off bright and early Monday morning. I arrived in Washington at half past six in the evening. meeting some friends there I had a very pleasant evening. At noon on Tuesday I left Washington and proceeded to Alexandria Va transacted my business there and then, having about three hours to spare I took a run around the city being determined to enjoy myself as much as I could. At half past three I left Alexandria Va and proceeded to City Point Va the sail from Alexandria to City Point is very pleasant indeed / and a very long one too, the distance being three hundred and ten miles. here's where the banjo came in play, my room-mate & me had a fine time to ourselves singing dancing &c. I arrived at City Point at 9 O'clock Wednesday night and came to camp yesterday morning and very glad I was to get here too, for I had run around so much that I was completely done up.
On my arrival here I found your last letter awaiting me but I will write again in answer to it. As I have got considerable work to do to make up for my absence I must now close with my love to you
Ever Yours
Bob
